Royal Caribbean, founded in 1968 by three Norwegian shipping companies, launched its first ship, the Song of Norway, in 1970. The company quickly established itself with the introduction of larger and larger ships, such as the Sovereign of the Seas in 1988, considered the first large cruise ship of the modern era.
Royal Caribbean has been based in Miami, Florida, since 1997.
In 2009, the Oasis of the Seas set a new standard by becoming the largest ship ever built when it was launched. Since then, the company has been developing a fleet of ever more spacious ships, veritable temples of entertainment that redefine the experience at sea.
Royal Caribbean serves a variety of destinations, including the Caribbean and West Indies, the Bahamas, the Mediterranean, the Adriatic Sea, the Greek Islands, and Alaska. The Crown's Edge thrill ride, halfway between a ropes course and a Skywalk, the FlowRider surf simulator and the Adrenaline Peak climbing wall are just a few examples of the many entertaining activities on offer on Icon of the Seas. In terms of dining, the Icon of the Seas impresses with over 40 restaurants, bars and lounges. Izumi, located in the Central Park district, offers tasty sushi al fresco.
