Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1988 by the Greek Chandris group, with the goal of creating a premium maritime cruise line.
From the beginning, Celebrity Cruises distinguished itself with elegant ships and high-quality service. In 1997, the company was acquired by Royal Caribbean Group, marking the start of a significant expansion phase. With the introduction of the Millennium class in the early 2000s, followed by the Solstice class in the next decade, Celebrity Cruises redefined standards of excellence and innovation at sea.
In 2018, Celebrity launched the Edge class, marking a turning point in luxury cruise ship design with revolutionary concepts like the "Magic Carpet."
With a modern fleet and a commitment to excellence and sustainability, Celebrity Cruises offers memorable premium cruise experiences across more than 300 destinations worldwide.
The Edge class of Celebrity Cruises, launched in 2018 with Celebrity Edge, stands out for its technological innovations. This class of ships, which also includes Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Ascent, and Celebrity Xcel, features Infinite Verandas, which integrate balconies into the cabin space for uninterrupted panoramic views. Edge-class ships are easily recognizable by their Magic Carpet, a large mobile platform that moves vertically along the side of the ship. This platform is designed to adjust to different decks, offering not only dining and entertainment spaces but also the ability to facilitate passenger embarkation and disembarkation when positioned at the bottom of the ship. Edge-class ships can accommodate about 2,900 to 3,800 passengers, with a crew of around 1,300 to 1,400 members.
Launched in 2008 with Celebrity Solstice, this class of ships combines elegance with modern comfort. A distinctive feature of these ships is the Lawn Club, a real grass area on the top deck. Ships in the Solstice class, such as Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette, and Celebrity Reflection, also stand out for their sophisticated common spaces, theaters, and a wide variety of specialty restaurants. Solstice-class ships can accommodate around 2,850 to 3,046 passengers, with a crew of about 1,250 to 1,271 members.
The Millennium class, inaugurated with Celebrity Millennium in 2000, also includes Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Summit, and Celebrity Constellation. These ships have all been modernized as part of the "Celebrity Revolution" program, incorporating contemporary elements inspired by the Edge class. Millennium-class ships now offer renovated public spaces like the Rooftop Terrace, providing spectacular views, and a modernized theater. These ships can accommodate about 2,100 to 2,218 passengers, with a crew of around 1,000 members.
Celebrity Cruises' expedition ships, including Celebrity Xpedition launched in 2001, Celebrity Xploration in 2017, and Celebrity Flora in 2019, are designed to offer intimate and immersive adventures in unique destinations, particularly cruises in the Galapagos Islands. Due to their small size, these ships can explore places inaccessible to larger cruise ships. Onboard, naturalists give lectures in the Discovery Lounge. The Observation Lounge, with its large bay windows, allows guests to fully enjoy the landscapes. Celebrity Xpedition accommodates 48 passengers with a crew of 58 members, Celebrity Flora can host 100 passengers with 80 crew members, and Celebrity Xploration is designed for 16 passengers with 12 crew members, ensuring personalized attention and high-quality service throughout the cruise.
Celebrity Cruises stands out with its ships featuring refined designs, conceived by world-renowned designers such as Tom Wright, famous for his work on the Burj Al Arab, and the Jouin Manku agency, known for its unique approach combining cutting-edge technology and traditional craftsmanship. Celebrity Ascent showcases more than 4,000 works of art, transforming the ship into a floating gallery, while Celebrity Apex houses a gallery with daily rotating exhibits.
The Magic Carpet, an iconic innovation on Celebrity Cruises' Edge-class ships, redefines spaces at sea with its unique and multifunctional design. This mobile platform, suspended on the side of the ship, moves between decks to offer various experiences, from outdoor dining to a relaxation space. Eden, a three-level space, blends nature and technology with its large bay windows and changing atmospheres. The Rooftop Garden is an outdoor garden, ideal for relaxation. Finally, the Grand Plaza, with its impressive central chandelier, is a lively meeting place where the atmosphere evolves throughout the day, offering a vibrant and immersive experience.
On Celebrity Cruises ships, guests enjoy quality service, thanks to an excellent average crew-to-passenger ratio of 1 to 2. The service aboard Celebrity Cruises ships is known for its attentive and personalized nature. Each crew member is trained to anticipate passengers' needs, providing a unique experience for every traveler. Whether in the quality of interactions or responsiveness to requests, the crew excels with a proactive and warm approach. For example, the concierges in The Retreat suites often know passengers' preferences before they even board. From the moment a reservation is made, they collect information about guests' preferences, such as favorite drinks or desired activities, to prepare the suite accordingly. This ensures a customized experience from the moment of embarkation, with careful attention to every detail to meet passengers' expectations.
The cabins and suites on Celebrity Cruises ships offer remarkable comfort, with high-end amenities like king-size beds, elegant bathrooms, and private balconies. Exclusive to suite passengers, The Retreat complex offers guests a range of premium services, including a dedicated butler, a private restaurant Luminae featuring dishes created by Chef Daniel Boulud, and an exclusive lounge where you can relax in privacy. Suite passengers also enjoy access to a reserved pool area, the sundeck, and numerous other amenities, such as priority luggage handling and personalized concierge services.
These ships are also equipped with a theater, a modern casino, pools, and a panoramic gym. For wellness enthusiasts, Celebrity Cruises is especially notable for its Wellness Spa, a true sanctuary dedicated to relaxation and revitalization. The spa offers more than 120 treatments, some inspired by the destinations visited, using products from prestigious brands like Kérastase. Edge-class ships also feature the SEA Thermal Suite, a sensory space with eight unique thermal experiences, along with innovative fitness classes with ocean views.
Onboard Celebrity Cruises ships, guests can enjoy exceptional culinary experiences crafted by Michelin-starred chefs. With menus created by renowned chefs, every meal becomes a unique gastronomic journey. Created by Daniel Boulud, the gourmet restaurant Le Voyage offers refined cuisine inspired by global flavors, with dishes like Lobster Risotto and Red Berry Pavlova. The restaurant's atmosphere, designed by the Jouin Manku duo, is intimate and sophisticated, offering a visual and culinary experience. Special attention is also given to the wine list, which is one of the most awarded at sea.
The ships in the fleet can feature up to 15 different restaurants to satisfy every palate. Celebrity Cruises offers a wide range of included restaurants, such as Oceanview, a casual buffet with a large variety of international dishes, and the Spa Café & Juice Bar, which serves light meals and fresh juices, perfect for a moment of relaxation.
Celebrity Cruises offers a wide range of destinations, from sunny cruises in the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Mexico, to exploring the Mediterranean, the Greek islands, the Adriatic, Northern Europe, and Asia, to fascinating expeditions in Alaska and the Galapagos. Caribbean cruises typically include a special stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean Group's private island in the Bahamas. This stop promises a day full of excitement with attractions like the Thrill Waterpark, home to the tallest slide in North America, as well as a massive wave pool. Visitors can also enjoy the Up, Up and Away attraction, a hot air balloon that rises to 137 meters for a spectacular panoramic view of the island.
Celebrity Cruises is widely recognized for its excellence in the cruise industry, having won numerous prestigious awards such as "Best Premium Cruise Line" at the TravelAge West WAVE Awards. In terms of sustainability, Celebrity Cruises has been honored for its environmental initiatives, winning a gold medal in the "Overall Eco-friendly Green Cruise Ship" category at the Travel Weekly Magellan Awards.
Celebrity Cruises is actively committed to the environment through its "Save the Waves" program, which is based on three core principles: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
The company pays close attention to environmental preservation by adhering to local ecological standards and working with certified guides, especially on cruises to the Galapagos.
The newest ships in the fleet are also equipped with solar panels for electricity production and LED lighting for increased energy efficiency.
Celebrity Cruises also stands out for its social commitment, promoting gender equality with iconic figures like Kate McCue, the first woman to command a large cruise ship, Celebrity Edge. The company places great importance on fostering inclusivity within its staff, with 32% of female officers on deck, well above the maritime industry's average.
