Le Champlain was built between 2017 and 2018 by Vard shipyards. It measures 430 feet long and 59 feet wide, with a gross tonnage of 9,976. With 92 staterooms and suites, it can accommodate up to 184 guests. The ship’s size and capacity align with Ponant’s expedition cruise concept—offering personalized experiences in remote destinations.
With 118 crew members, Le Champlain maintains an excellent guest-to-crew ratio of 1.5. The 24/7 service, luxurious passenger spaces, and premium amenities place it on par with the world’s finest 5-star hotels.
Caribbean cruises, the Azores, the Iberian Peninsula, cruises to Northern Europe, Central America, and the Indian Ocean—Le Champlain offers diverse itineraries, often including ports that are inaccessible to large cruise ships.
In addition to travel, Ponant emphasizes culture. Each cruise features onboard experts and lecturers who provide enriching insights into the regions visited.

Le Champlain features two distinct restaurants. On Deck 4, the gourmet restaurant offers French and international fine dining in a sophisticated setting, with menus developed in collaboration with acclaimed chef Alain Ducasse and paired with a curated wine list from the ship’s cellar.
On Deck 3, when the weather allows, the grand salon’s terrace transforms into an outdoor grill restaurant.
The ship’s main bar, the grand salon, features a dance floor and terrace and hosts festive evening events organized by the crew. The poolside relaxation area includes a small bar—perfect for sunbathing with your favorite drink.
Le Champlain’s most original bar is located below the waterline. The Blue Eye lounge offers a unique multisensory experience—watch marine life through whale eye–shaped portholes and listen to underwater sounds picked up by sensors beneath the hull.
All 92 staterooms and suites aboard Le Champlain feature a private balcony or terrace. Cabins offer 205 square feet, while suites range from 290 to 484 square feet of refined, fully equipped living space, including individual climate control, satellite TV, minibar, desk with stationery, vanity, safe, satellite phone, 220V outlets, and unlimited Wi-Fi.
The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which includes a full selection of Hermès bath and beauty products and a hairdryer.
Ponant is committed to sustainability. Le Champlain is equipped with the latest green technologies and has been awarded the “Cleanship” label by Bureau Veritas. At sea, the crew is trained in eco-friendly practices, and the ship regularly welcomes leading figures involved in environmental protection.
